Since its founding in 1827, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world dedicated to advancing knowledge.
Why is international cooperation important for your university?
KTH’s organisation as a whole must be characterised by international integration. KTH is an international educational institution where education and research must maintain the very highest standards, not least in order to attract international students, teachers and researchers. Recruitment of students and faculty members must be carried out both nationally and internationally.
Why is your involvement with SIREUS important for your university?
The combination of the focus on knowledge exchange in innovation, science and entrepreneurship and increased talent mobility for students and researchers between Sweden and the USA is very beneficial for KTH.
What is the most important aspect of the SIREUS project for your university?
With increased global competition and an accelerating pace of innovation, attracting skilled talent becomes ever more important. Close collaboration between our universities and the outside world increases Sweden’s attractiveness as an innovative knowledge nation. The U.S. is a global leader in research and education, with many of the world’s top universities and the largest companies. Establishing and strengthening long-term ties with American stakeholders in both academia and the private sector is of utmost importance to KTH.
Why should students, researchers and faculty spend time at KTH?
KTH Royal Institute of Technology is Sweden's largest and most respected technical university. Being a KTH student involves more than just engaging in studies. By choosing KTH, you gain access to a vibrant student life and a prestigious academic environment.
KTH Royal Institute of Technology offers the opportunity to complete a doctoral degree (PhD) in a dynamic, international research environment that features world-class facilities as well as close collaboration with industry and other prominent universities worldwide. Being the largest and highest ranked technical university in Sweden, KTH provides excellent conditions for its 2,000 doctoral students.
What can you tell us about life outside your university?
Stockholm is a city of contrasts. Trends in music, design, fashion, and technology are born here, and innovations that spread worldwide are invented here.
Stockholm also has a rich history comprising exciting architecture, museums, the Royal Palace and the medieval urban core of Gamla Stan. Trendy bars and world-class restaurants are shoulder-to-shoulder with historic cafés and cozy neighborhood pubs. This is a city of modern galleries and exclusive department stores, as well as small boutiques and unique shops. Stages and arenas attract Swedish and international stars. Large and small events come one after the next.
Stockholm is simultaneously urban and close to nature; water is an ever-present feature in this city where lake and sea meet. Parks and green areas abound, and the distinctive white archipelago boats travel to the islands all year long. The atmosphere is open and welcoming, and diversity and innovation are encouraged. Stockholm is a city for everyone.
