As a Swedish student eager to pursue studies in the U.S., there are many scholarships that may be applicable to you. Therefore, SIREUS has summarized relevant scholarship information for Swedish students, and this information can be found below.

Funding from Organizations & Foundations

American Scandinavian Foundation 

This is a foundation that offers awards to Americans and Scandinavians who want to pursue graduate and postgraduate studies, and research in each other's countries. For Americans the deadline is in November, and for Scandinavians the deadline is in April. 

Fulbright US Student Program

This is a program that primarily offers scholarships to American students who want to pursue graduate studies, conduct research or teach English abroad. However, there is a possibility to apply as a non-US citizen as well.

Rotary International 

The foundation offers two types of scholarships. On a local level, their clubs and districts offer funding for secondary, undergraduate, and graduate students in all fields of study, and on an international level the rotary foundation offers scholarships to graduates and professionals within the peace and development field.  

SWEA International

This is a non-profit organization that grants three scholarships, one for research in the Swedish language or culture, one studies in intercultural relations, and one for performance art. The application period is between September and January.

The Sweden-America Foundation

This foundation provides scholarships for graduate and postgraduate studies, research, and internships. To apply, you need to be a Swedish citizen and the deadline is in September.

Länsstyrelserna (county administrative boards)

The county administrative boards of Sweden provide several scholarships for students seeking higher education or internship opportunities in the United States. To find a relevant scholarship for you, fill in which county you come from and where you aim to study. It is also possible to search for scholarships by using relevant words such as "USA" or "Amerika".

SIREUS' 9 American Affiliated Universities offer various scholarships for Swedish students looking to pursue studies in the U.S.

Chapman University

Chapman University offers two types of scholarships for international students. Merit based scholarships that can go up to 36 000 USD and need-based aid that can go up to 15 000 USD. The education center also provide help for students that want to apply to external scholarships.

Gustavus Adolphus College 

All international students admitted at the university are automatically reviewed for the Count Folke Bernadotte Scholarship. The award ranges between 20 000 and 40 000 USD.

Michigan Technological University

The university offers several scholarship opportunities for international students. For example, the International Ambassador Scholarship which is specifically targeted toward students that are citizens and residents of non-US countries.

Purdue University

Purdue University offers scholarship opportunities for international students based on academic performance, leadership, and extracurricular activities. The Office of International Students and Scholars provides assistance to find and apply for scholarships, and external scholarships may also be available. 

Tufts University

There are several financial opportunities to choose from, for example scholarships, fellowships, assistantships, and need-based aid. Every institution offers their own funding so the size, last application date, and requirements may vary.

The University of Texas at San Antonio 

For international students from Sweden, the university offer the International Student Grant. It is a need-based scholarship for undergraduate and graduate students and funding varies from year to year depending on availability of funds. 

Virginia Tech 

Virginia Tech offers scholarships for international undergraduate students based on academic achievement, leadership potential, and other criteria, including merit-based and need-based scholarships. Applicants must apply for admission and meet the relevant deadlines. 

Washington State University 

Upon admission, international students are automatically considered for several scholarships. However, it is possible to apply for a verity of other additional awards and the deadline for these are January 31. The awards are about 2 000 USD.
