Big data encompasses three main characteristics: volumes, variety and velocity of structured semi-structured and unstructured data generated by the Internet, social media, audio, video, images and computerized transactions, is challenging our technical capacity to manage it. The major challenge is to develop capabilities to understand and interpret big data to take advantage of the opportunities it provides. To analyze and make sense of big data, advanced technologies and tools such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data mining are often used.
