What is your university all about?

Uppsala University was founded in 1477 and has a long history and rich traditions. Why is international cooperation important for your university?

Uppsala university aim to strengthen its position as a leading international research university. International collaboration is a means and a strategy for achieving higher quality research and education. Quality, perseverance and reciprocity in international relations such as the development of deepened, strategic collaboration with selected universities and world regions is our guiding principle. Uppsala University is to take an active role in the global community, promote development, creativity and innovation and thus contribute towards global development.

Why is your involvement with SIREUS important for your university?

Uppsala University has active partnerships with American universities which date back almost four decades. The Swedish Institute for North American Studies (SINAS) at Uppsala University conducts research and promotes the study of North America with a focus on politics and culture. We also see many collaboration opportunities in the field of material science (batteries, solar energy), sustainability studies (social justice, circular economy, urban development, climate leadership) and life sciences (antibiotic resistance, health care)

What is the most important aspect of the SIREUS project for your university?

SIREUS represents a comprehensive approach in fostering collaboration between Sweden and the USA in the sense that it encompasses research, education and innovation.

Why should students, researchers and faculty spend time at Uppsala?

In Uppsala, more than 40,000 students are seen, heard and make their mark everywhere. It is no wonder, since they have been part of the city since 1477. They have created traditions and continue to create these, something that made Uppsala the student city it is today. The university is constantly present in buildings, thoughts and reputation. Experience a unique student life in Uppsala involving six student unions, 13 student nations and a wide variety of student organisations. What can you tell us about life outside your university?

At Uppsala University we believe that life outside of the classroom is just as important as inside. That’s why we work closely with student nations and student unions to make your student life as inspiring and enjoyable as possible. Uppsala with its more than 230.000 inhabitants is situated less than an hour north of the capital Stockholm. The innovation ecosystem is one of the best in Sweden. Entrepreneurs with a climate change agenda are welcome to join the Uppsala Climate Protocol. Here, private and public sector businesses collaborate with the universities to foster climate-driven business development with a focus on energy efficiency, battery storage, solar energy and fossil fuel reduction. The city is very international in flair and a hub for collaboration.
