What is your university all about?

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is the largest university in the San Antonio metropolitan region with more than 34,000 students and a growing catalog of 200+ unique programs. Our TIER 1 research status places UTSA among the top 100 universities in the US. UTSA is a leader in data science, cybersecurity, engineering, biological sciences, and business. Through experiential learning and a commitment to student success, UTSA is creating bold futures for students seeking jobs in competitive industries.

Which is your university’s biggest area of strength?

UTSA is fueling San Antonio’s national reputation as the largest cyber and information security hub outside of Washington, D.C. – second only to our nation’s capital in federal and defense contracting opportunities and concentration of cybersecurity professionals.

As part of our School of Data Science, our Cyber program spans 3 colleges with degrees from undergraduate to doctoral levels.  Paired with our strength in data analytics, AI, open cloud, and quantum computing, UTSA is global leader in cyber and data research and education. UTSA is helping to put Texas on the map as a cyber powerhouse. We are one of the few universities in United States—and the only Hispanic Serving Institution—to hold all three National Center of Academic Excellence designations from the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.

Why is international cooperation important for your university?

Tackling society’s greatest challenges through research and education requires cooperation and strategic partnerships around the world. We face similar challenges, and it makes sense to cooperate toward solutions.  With our partners, UTSA is focusing on infectious disease, precision medicine, drug discovery to tackle intractable medical problems like Alzheimer, dangerous viruses and cancer.  We also have researchers working on water and energy sustainability to provide global solutions to clean water and energy. Together we can provide a more secure future for all.

Why is your affiliation with SIREUS important for your university?

UTSA and the Universities in Sweden are both leaders in innovation and research.  We can multiply our efforts for greater impact by exchanging ideas and working together through faculty and student exchange and shared projects.

What is the most important aspect to achieve from the SIREUS Affiliation program?

As an R1 University, UTSA will expand its research partnerships with Swedish Universities and industry partners through the SIREUS affiliation. We look forward to welcoming researchers of all levels to Texas and to share with them our special brand of San Antonio hospitality.

Why should students, researchers and faculty spend time at your university?

UTSA is a Tier One research institution with over 34,000 students and 5,000 world-class educators, cutting-edge researchers and dedicated mentors from over 90+ countries. It is the largest university in the San Antonio metropolitan region, yet it offers a true sense of community.

What can you tell us about life outside your university?

UTSA is located in San Antonio, TX, the 7th largest city in the U.S. and home to the Alamo, River Walk, Fiesta Celebration, a world-class NBA team (Go Spurs!) and so much more.  Known for its UNESCO world heritage designated Missions and as a City of Gastronomy, San Antonio is the jewel of South Texas.  Beyond the city is the world-famous Texas hill country to the north, with its limestone cliffs and natural springs.
