University of Gothenburg

Individual plan

Here, you can find your university's individual plan in the SIREUS project. This includes which areas of the U.S. you want to establish contact with, what thematic areas you want to find collaborations within and what you wish to acheive with your membership in the project.

What American universities/regions does your university want to focus on?

The University of Gothenburg wants to have better contact with universities in the geographic areas of California and the Carolinas, especially the universities that we initiated or want to manage, e.g. UC Davis and UC San Diego in California, and UNCW and UoSC in the Carolinas. We prefer to collaborate with these universities in the thematic areas that relate to GU's offer and that match theirs.

What areas of research does your university want to focus on?

When it comes to research collaborations, the University of Gothenburg seeks increased engagement with geographical areas such as MIT, Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, or the regions of California, Massachusetts, and the Carolinas. This interest extends to the thematic areas of clinical medicine and pharmacy (life science), odontology (life science), marine sciences (green transition), and political sciences (society and culture).

How does your university want to work with innovation?

Regarding innovation, the University of Gothenburg desires enhanced connectivity with universities such as MIT, Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, or within the geographical regions of California, Massachusetts, and the Carolinas. This collaboration is sought within thematic areas aligning with the offerings of the University of Gothenburg and corresponding to its expertise.

What else do you wish to acheive with the SIREUS project?

The University of Gothenburg does not have a stated US strategy, but we carry out a collective set of activities, e.g. new collaboration agreements for primarily student exchange, a delegation trip to California that took place in March 2023, accreditation for American student loans (FAFSA = American CSN, the application has unfortunately been withdrawn due to the two conflicting legal systems), and some targeted recruitment efforts for the international the bachelor's and master's programs. It is also difficult to answer the questions about innovation and research collaborations because GU is such a broad institution with expertise in several areas and not specifically in those designated as thematic areas for SIREUS.

Additionally, the University of Gothenburg seeks to establish increased connections with the business sector, particularly in relation to internship opportunities for exchange students and University of Gothenburg students, facilitated through our membership in SIREUS.
